I also did some gaming, I played the Forgotten Hope mod for Battlefield 1942. The game had all ranges of sounds.
Everything from high gunshots to low tank engines sounded very clear and real. With the 5.1 surround the game is definitionally taken to the next level. It sounded like I was right in the middle of the battle, and when I was being approached from behind it was almost tempting to turn to my head.
As I mentioned before, the included remote control can improve the listening experience by allowing you to adjust the volumes of individual speaker "zones". I played around with that while listening to some music and got it adjusted so that it sounded better for the room size that I was in.
