Silverstone Power Supply Acoustic Cover

Price: $12 Canadian

Introduction:
Building a quieter PC has become an ongoing race these days. The major options out there now are to either buy silent components or silence your existing components. For those who want to silence their power supply, Silverstone makes the PP02. This is a power supply acoustic cover which gets put over the back of your power supply to silence fan noise.

In The Box:
(1) PP02 Acoustic Cover
(4) Mounting screws

Specs:
Material: ABS
Colour: Black
Interior material: noise absorbing foam
Dimension: 142mm (W) x 90mm (H) x 77mm (D)
Weight: 79g

Features:
The main feature of the PP02 is to reduce the noise generated by loud fans in power supplies. Not everyone who has a very loud power supply has the cash to go and buy one of the many new ultra-silent ones on the market. For those in that situation, the PP02 will fit any standard size power supply and costs under $13 Canadian!

The inside of the PP02 is covered in a sound absorbing foam padding. The outside has a great looking unique shape to it which will definitely add some style to the back end of your case! The Silverstone logo and name is printed in white across the upper half of the back.

Installation:
To install the PP02 you'll have to first remove all the old mounting screws off your power supply. Next, hold the PP02 up, line up all the holes and use the included longer screws to mount it. It is definitely a quick item to install and can be done by anyone.

The only minor problem I had with installation, is my power switch was above where the power cable goes into the power supply. As the only opening in the cover is at the bottom, I had to stretch around a little to reach and flick the switch. For those who do a lot of work in their PC and need to flick the power supply off a lot, you may find this to get in the way.

Testing:
To test the PP02 I installed it on a variety of computers and listened to the overall sound for any evident noise reduction from the power supply. The computers tested had power supplies that ranged from very loud no-name supplies to one with a brand new silent power supply in it. I didn't want to leave any kind untested!

For the most part, the PP02 did help reduce some noise on all the power supplies I tested it with. The noise reduction was more apparent when your ear was put closer to the back of the computer I found. So I can really only recommend this product to those with very noisy power supplies in the first place. For just sticking it on your average PC power supply the amount of noise reduction is debatable.

Conclusion:
Overall, the Silverstone PP02 Power Supply Acoustic cover makes a great and cheap way to silence a very loud power supply in your computer.

Pros:
Cheap price
Some noise reduction is evident
Longer screws are included
Design looks good, doesn't look "ugly" on the back of a case

Cons:
Getting to the power switch on some supplies can be difficult

Rating: 9/10
