Moving on to the front of the case, at the very bottom you'll see two LED's, one on each side, to indicate power and hard drive. I found these two LED's to be mounted too low and under a slight bevel to be clearly visible most of the time. Mounting them higher on the front of the case would have taken away from the very clean appearance, so they are best located where they are anyway. Above these LED's is a very stylish red grill which is actually an air intake with a red LED fan sitting behind it. Above that you'll see one of the most notable features of the case which is the red LCD screen. The LCD displays case temperature, up-time, HDD access light, power light and a huge Viper snake head (snake head flickers on and off for looks). All are well illuminated in a nice and bright red colour for very easy visibility. The temperature sensor on the LCD has an alarm that will ring and flash if the temperature exceeds 70 degrees C. This LCD is something very unique to this case and several other XGBox cases. I have not seen any other cases with such a feature packed LCD display built in. Above the LCD display is the front door which hides all the drive bays behind it. One thing I just love about the door latching system on XGBox cases is that it uses magnets instead of the typical clip that most other manufacturers use. Using magnets allows the entire latching system to be "invisible" and very clean looking. On the upper part of the door is the Viper head logo, once again lit in a red colour. One comment I always get from people about front doors is why they mostly have to be hinged on the left. I wonder how hard it would be to make the door interchangable to open from the left or the right. I know people who have their computer located where a left hinge door is totally useless for them because they would have to reach around it, but anyway, just a thought. Above the door on a very slight angle is where the front interface ports and buttons are located. To access them you need to push the lower right corner of the plastic door that's slightly angled, and tada! The door swings up to reveal 2 USB, 1 firewire, 2 audio ports, and a power and reset button. With those interface components being hidden the overall front of the case has a very clean look to it and when you need to access those components it's very easy. Moving on to the left side of the case there is a very large window in the shape of a Viper head. This window is also UV reactive as we saw with the Sidewinder case window as well. Verticle down the right side of the panel the word "VIPER" is written in a very attention-getting red font. In the lower left corner of the case there's a red LED fan behind a Viper head grill. Let me say one thing, all the fans in both this case and the included power supply are VERY quiet. I am very surprised at the low acoustic noise generated when the case is running. The door on the left side can be easily pulled off by using the small flip-out handle at the back after removing the 2 thumbscrews. |
