Features:
The exterior of the 970P is a gloss white finish with parts of it a silver colour. Overall, it seems to have that iPod look to it in my personal opinion.
Starting at the bottom of the display, everything sits on a rather large sized square base. This base is packed with enough weight to help keep the monitor standing on the desk no matter how you may rotate or turn it. The grey circle in the middle of the base is where the monitor arm connects to the base. This circle is able to rotate 90 degrees left and right. At the front of the base, on the top is a long power button. When powered on, this entire button illuminates a nice soft blue colour. The power button is also the only button on the entire monitor.
The monitor arm itself is definitely an eye catcher as you can see in some of the images. The triple hinge system allows you to bring the screen right down onto your desk or have it elevated up to about a 134mm viewing height.
Having such a great range of movement would make this monitor very ideal to wall mount. Mounting spots for a wall bracket are on the bottom of the base, however the bracket must be purchased separatly.

On a short cable off the rear of the base, you'll probably notice the little box attached. This box is actually what houses the DVI-I and power adapter connections, they are not right on the screen or base like most traditional LCD's have. Unlike most digital displays which have both DVI and analog connections, this display only has a DVI connection on the box. However, Samsung includes a unique DVI to Analog cable which you can easily use to hook the monitor up to any video card. For those with a digital card, the regular DVI to DVI cable is also included.

To keep the size of the physical display down, Samsung has chosen to use an external power adapter for the 970P.

The screen itself is a very large 19 inches in size and also has a great range of movement. You can tilt it up to 90 degrees back as well as rotate it a full 180 degrees (upside down). With the Samsung software you can have the computer automatically flip the displayed image when it senses the screen has been rotated.

Now onto the more technical features behind the Samsung 970P LCD display. The screen features a very impressive contrast ratio of 1000:1. Samsung is starting to use high contrast ratios pretty standard on all their new LCD displays I have noticed. Most LCD's for sale today I've noticed are still in the 8 to 12ms response time range, however, Samsung has paired this monitor up with a very impressive and fast 6ms gray to gray response time! As with almost all LCD's, the native resolution for the 970P is 1280x1024.

Installation:
Installation and setup went fast and easy for the 970P. Physical installation consists of plugging the power cable into the adapter and the adapter into the box that comes off the base of the monitor. Second step is to select which interface cable you will be using. Samsung includes both DVI-DVI and DVI-Analog cables.

Once you've booted up your computer, you'll want to install the included Samsung drivers and calibration software as that will give you the ability to fully adjust the monitor as there is no OSD for the 970P.

Testing:
I used the same testing procedure on this monitor as I do all LCDs that get tested here. It was put through several days of heavy use. I was sure to test it in all fields like general windows use, gaming, movies, etc.

To easily wrap up all my tests, I was unable to find a performance area that I was not pleased with. No matter what I was doing on the 970P it simply looked great. Personally I noticed that around the time LCD displays got in the 12ms response time, that gaming and movie watching could be done fairly easily. Very rarely would you encounter ghosting, and it would be hard to notice unless you specifically looked for it. Having a 6ms response time, I was unable to see any noticable ghosting on the 970P display.

The high 1000:1 constrast ratio made all images very vivid looking and added a great deal of depth to gaming.
