Features:
Now lets talk a bit more about the heart of the system itself, the DVD receiver. I honestly didn't know what to make of this thing when I pulled it out of the box. It's not like other TV/Stereo equipment where it will easily sit on a shelf or in an equipment rack. As you can see in the pictures, it's an upright oval on a stand. The DVD player is top loading and all discs get put into a slot on the top left edge. I personally am greatly against how that part of the system is designed. Most people have their TVs on a stand or in a hutch, all of which usually have some sort of shelving system. Once you make room for the amount of height required to load a DVD in the top of this unit, you literally can not put it on any standard TV shelf. This leaves the question of where exactly do you put it? You'd almost have to put it on a table or something up near your TV, and keep in mind there are alot of wires that go between it such as the 5 speakers, sub woofer, and the wires to your TV. As nice as it would be to set it on a table near you the routing of the wires everywhere couldn't be done that way. So if you're looking into buying this system, check out my pictures and make sure you can fit the receiver somewhere first! As long as you have a shelf near your TV where the main unit can sit with room above it to load the DVD's then your all set for a terrific home theatre experience.
Now on to talking about it's features. The front of the receiver is a gloss black plastic with the right half being the display. The display itself has very large blue characters which are very easily visible from a distance. As opposed to a rectangular display like most units have, the display on the HT-XQ100T is very narrow which I didn't prefer. I also found that it didn't display very much worthy information. Most of the time I would see what mode it was in or the time code of where I was in the movie. On large systems like this, having the display show extra info about the current sound mode is also helpful. Doing something like that makes sure the user doesn't have to flip through menus if they need to double check an important setting.
The upper right corner of the receiver has a little chrome joystick style navigator which handles your play, stop, forward and backward functions during a DVD. There's also a volume up and down button and function button in this area too.
If you want to listen to songs from a removable USB device on the surround sound system there is a USB port on the left side just for this task. It allows you to plug in any kind of removable USB device (such as an MP3 player, thumb drive, etc). Any media on this can then be displayed on the system. Above the USB port is a headphone jack for private listening.
