Installation:
With Altec Lansing using a lot of specalized and colour coordinated connectors, setup is very easy and very straightforward. One snag I ran into during installation was that no 1/8" cable was included to hook the speakers into my computer! They include a nice long L/R RCA cable, but no 1/8"! This cable would be quite inexpensive and I think Altec Lansing should really consider including one with any future systems. For the end user, having to run out to a shop and overpay for one of these cables just to get your new speakers running, after already spending over $300 on them, is a little discouraging. When using these speakers on a computer system you will attach the satellites to the base which allows them to sit an your desk. Keep in mind that this base makes the footprint of the satellites about 8 inches deep by 2.5 inches wide. Those tiny satellites now have a fairly deep profile, which of course shouldn't be a problem on a desk. The satellites also come with a long extension cable if they are to be mounted remotely beside a flat screen TV.
Testing:
To test the PT6021 speakers we obviously connected them to our computer and played a wide variety of music and movies (other video formats as well). The sound quality from these speakers was absolutely AMAZING! I can easily say that out of the large number of Altec Lansing speaker systems I have experience with, this is one of the best sounding yet! Speaker systems that use wooden subwoofer enclosures always have deeper and richer bass and lower frequencies than cheaper plastic subs. That being said, the PT6021 with a wooden sub enclosure sure lives up to that. The bass response and power of this system is very broad indeed. There is a great deal of range provided when adjusting the subwoofer volume. The sound from the satellites is also equaly amazing. The sound is very bright, alive, and "clean" sounding. Also remember that these satellites are fairly directional and to achieve the best sound they should be pointed towards you.
Conclusion:
Overall the sound quality of the PT6021 speaker system is just outright sensational. There is quite alot of range provided when adjusting the bass and treble controls so you can surely adjust these speakers to suit anyones listening preferences. So many cheaper speakers do not have a very clean, pure, and precise sound quality to them, and you really don't notice those poor qualities so much until you listen to something as good as the Altec Lansing PT6021's. Even while comparing these speakers to our other Altec Lansing speaker systems the differences are VERY apparent. The other speaker sytems do sound OK, don't get me wrong, but when compared side by side with the PT6021's, OH MY, what a difference. If you find that listening to good quality audio is something that is important to you then you really MUST consider spending a little extra money on a speaker system that will "blow you away", and this is certainly that type of speaker system!
