Installation:
I had no problems with the installation of the NX-8050 power supply. This power supply is a pretty standard size so everything fit very nicely in my Silverstone LC20 HTPC case that I was installing it into.

Testing:
To test the NP-8050 I recorded the idle voltages after a fresh boot of the system while just sitting on the desktop for a few minutes. Load voltages were taken after running the CPU at 100% load for a full 30 minutes to put as much stress on the system as I could to make it draw more power. The results are below and some comparison is made afterwards.

Voltages Idle Voltage Load Voltage
+ 3.3V
3.23V
3.22V
+ 5.0V
4.84V
4.84V
+12V
11.73V
11.73V

When I measured the voltages I noticed them to be slightly under the rated amounts (see chart above). Although not the EXACT values they should be, these numbers are all VERY MUCH within the rated tolerance range of a power supply and are definitely nothing to be alarmed over. I just explained that for those who may not be as familiar with power supplies and each line's rated tolerance range.

I was surprised again at how little the voltages changed after having the system at 100% full load for a half hour. Keeping a load like that on the system for that period of time puts tremendous stress on the hardware, thus causing it to draw more power. For any cheap power supply, you will see the numbers start to fluctuate and the voltages dropping slightly as the system draws more power. Notice the numbers above for this power supply? Any well built and high-end power supply will stand up to this strain and continue to provide solid voltages - the Nexus NX-8050 is no exception.

Conclusion:
All in all, the Nexus NX-8050 performed very well on our test bench, holding solid voltages even under tremendous stress. Providing very silent cooling and the modular cabling system is yet another plus. Some may find the price a bit costly, but you do get what you pay for and the power supply is one area of a computer you should never cheap out on. Overall, another excellent product from Nexus!

Pros:
Quiet operation
Modular cable system
All cables are sleeved
High 80% efficiency and Active PFC

Cons:
Price - but you get what you pay for
