Installation:
The dock portion was also incredibly easy to install. Once fastened into a 3.5" drive bay, all you need to do is connect the SATA cable to a spare SATA port and the power cable to an available molex. The power cable is a dedicated end and not a pass-through style of plug, so you will have to dedicate one molex lead to powering only this enclosure. I was rather disappointed to see the SATA cable was hardwired on the back of the enclosure. For those with larger cases who need to use longer SATA cables, you could have a length issue come up here during installation. I also found that the power cable coming off the back, also hardwired, was way longer than it should be because power supply cables are able to reach just fine. Having unnecessarly long cables just creates more mess for those who have windows in their cases and like to keep everything looking clean. With that said, I will still take a cable that is too long than one that is too short!
Since it works as either a USB drive, SATA drive or E-SATA drive, there is no driver installation required for the MS05. Any computer with a USB or SATA port should be able to run it just fine. Testing: However, once inserted the internal SATA connection worked just fine with great transfer speeds. Keep in mind that mobile SATA drives usually come in 5400RPM and 7200RPM speeds. If you buy a 5400RPM drive then don't expect transfer speeds as fast as your internal drives because most 3.5" SATA drives are 7200RPM on average. So although having the internal SATA connection offers faster speeds, you are still limited by the style of 2.5" drive you have in the Silverstone enclosure. Of course USB worked just as expected too, it was plug and play just like any 2.5" USB enclosure is.
