Installation:
As with most lapdesks, there really is no installation required. Just set it on your lap and you're ready to go!

Here's a picture showing the thickness of the pads. They really aren't anything huge or bulky which makes using, storing and transporting them quite easy.

Testing:
I found that both models of the Aerogel Extreme lapdesks would balance best if I set my notebook about an inch in on the farthest edge. This way any sway or rock of the notebook would not throw it off balance. Once sitting in that "sweet spot", I found that both lapdesks were very balanced as I worked and moved around slightly. Using an HP ZV5000 business class notebook, I'll admit that this is a slightly bulkier laptop than most. Although there was a very slight overhang on both lapdesk models, I found that it still fit quite nicely on them. Of course all laptop sizes are different, so even if there is a slight overhang it will not affect performance or balance of the lapdesk.

The regular size version was great to tuck in a laptop bag and take with me while I was working, providing cooling and comfort on the go for a lower price than the wide version. However, the size of it required that I always kept my legs fairly close together to hold it on my lap. The wide version made up for this by allowing me to relax a little more and not have to worry about leg positioning because it seemed to fit on my lap just nicely in all the common positions I usually sit in. Having the extra mouse pad/work surface on this model was also a plus. Being able to relax in my favourite chair while using my laptop with an external mouse was certainly a new level of comfort I never got before without being at a desk surface.

Of course the real test here was the heat - did my lap still get warm after using the laptop for a while? Simple answer: no! Each lapdesk did an excellent job of doing just what it's advertised to do; eliminate 99.9% of the heat from a laptop from reaching your body.

Conclusion:
Although they are a bit more expensive than most lapdesks, those who need the features that these products provide will certainly pay the additional cost. The LapLogic Aerogel Extreme lapdesks do just what they promise; they take away that painful feeling you get from the heat of your laptop when using it on your lap for extended periods of time. Adding comfort to portable laptop use is something that any laptop user can benefit from. The added mouse pad on the wide version further enhances that "desktop pc" feeling while on the go by allowing you to use your favourite mouse and your favourite recliner at the same time.

Pros:
Excellent job keeping their promise of insulating the laptop user from it's heat
Great looking styles
Non-slip surfaces keep things safely in place during use
Wide version offers built-in mouse pad/work surface

Cons:
They are a bit pricey for some
