Logitech's 'Cordless Desktop MX5500 Revolution' is their shot at putting out the "ultimate" desktop bundle for computer power users; not necessarily gamers here, but more the power user and enthusiast crowd.

The desktop includes both their MX5500 bluetooth keyboard and a new bluetooth version of the MX Revolution mouse. Of course a USB bluetooth dongle is also included for those that don't have bluetooth functionality in their computers already. This dongle supports Bluetooth 2.0EDR which has an increased bandwidth of 3 Mbit/s and also draws slightly less power than older bluetooth revisions did. Although standard bluetooth dongles usually have a range of around 10m (33ft), Logitech claims that their receiver is able to maintain connections at a much further rate than that (although exact numbers are unfortunately not given). Since bluetooth is a universal protocol, you can use the included receiver with any other bluetooth devices as well (I had my Blackberry running through it along with the keyboard and mouse).

Let's focus in on each peripheral a little more now, starting with the mouse. The mouse is Logitech's well known MX Revolution. The only difference here is that they have revised it and made it a bluetooth mouse now, instead of the 2.4ghz wireless USB version that ships when you buy just the standalone mouse. As you can see in the pictures, this mouse has a rather radical looking design to it - but a comfortable one! The MX Revolution is very easy to hold onto and I found that my hand formed very nicely and naturally to it. It's power is provided by an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery cell with an average life of around 15 days. Much like their older MX1000, the MX Revolution is recharged using an included charging base. In the base, the mouse appears to be just free-standing but it is actually supported by a backing piece of plastic. No USB connections here, the charging base plugs straight into the wall so you can charge the mouse even when the computer is off. Check out the pictures below to see this in action.
