Features:
In a pleasant change from the traditional beige printers, Samsung has chosen a completely black design for the CLP-315W. It's body is a compliment of both gloss black and matte black pieces with no beige or white anywhere to be seen. The size of the printer itself is another thing to bring to your attention. Traditionally, colour laser printers have been fairly beefy in size because of everything they must accommodate inside; four large toner cartridges with drums alongside all the other required components of a laser printer. Not being small things, the size of the toner cartridges usually leaves the printers with a pretty tall height. When I saw this printer being marketed as one of the smallest colour laser printers yet, I was certainly intrigued to see just how small it would be. In comparison to my Brother HL-2040 (a very small and compact monochrome laser printer), both printers have the same size footprint and the Samsung is only about 1.5 times the height of the Brother.

The paper cartridge of the CLP-315W will hold 150 sheets of paper which is a fairly standard size. I was disappointed to see there there is no manual feed option on this printer which makes odd print jobs slightly harder to do. However, to disagree with myself I'm also going to say that when designing a laser printer this small you will likely have to cut some corners with the design to save space, and most of the printing is from the paper tray anyway.

The toner cartridges have a life cycle of 1500 pages mono and 1000 pages for all 3 colour cartridges. Of course, shipping with the "starter" cartridges, you will only get 1000 mono pages and 700 colour pages with the ones in the box. The drum unit has a lifecycle of 20 000 mono pages and 6000 colour, which for some might be enough to outlast their time with the printer entirely. There is also a waste toner container that's nestled to the left of the toner cartridges (pictured below), this will need replacing every 10 000 mono pages or 2500 colour pages.
