Checking out the printing specifications of this printer I was let down when I saw that printing speeds were slightly lower than average. Monochrome prints will come out at 16 pages per minute where as colour printers are only 4 pages per minute. The colour print speed I was fine with, unless you're buying a high end colour laser printer then you should only expect between four to six pages per minute when printing in colour mode. However, monochrome print speeds is where I was slightly disappointed. Most new monochrome laser printers will average between 22-26 pages per minute, with higher end units doing even more than that. The CLP-315W will only do 16 per minute, still substantially faster and cheaper than doing monochrome work on an inkjet printer, but unfortunately slower than many of it's laser counterparts.

The CLP-315W is available in two separate versions; the standard CLP-315 and the CLP-315W that we're reviewing here today. The difference being only one thing - networking capabilities. The CLP-315W has built in wired and wireless networking alongside the standard USB connection. The CLP-315 only has the USB connection and no networking abilities unless you choose to plug it into a USB network print server on your own. Networking setup for the 315W is fairly easy, both for wired and wireless access. When connected to a wireless network you can connect to the 315W in the browser the same way you would for a network router setup. Once in there, you can configure it and setup the wireless profile if you are choosing to use it wirelessly. For wireless users, once that initial setup is done the printer will remember your network info and you will be good to unhook it from your router and place it anywhere within range of a power plug and your network's coverage.
