Features: Flipping the pad over reveals the black rubber, non-slip backing of the FX-3.
Testing: One of the pros to any cloth mouse pad, be it thick or thin, is that they're a lot more comfortable to rest your hand or wrist on than a hard plastic or glass pad! The same is true with the Breathe FX-3 - although it isn't as thick as some cloth pads I've used, it is still more comfortable than the plastic pad I was using prior.
One of the reasons I have personally stuck to using plastic mouse pads is because I've always found they give much less friction between my mouse and the pad. Less friction = faster movement and response time which is important to have while gaming and doing precise work with the mouse (ie. photo editing). When I transferred my mouse from my current pad, the Razer Destructor, to the Ulti-Mat Breathe FX-3 I was very surprised at how I could barely tell which of the two had less friction! The Breathe has clearly accomplished the task that previously reviewed cloth mouse pads could not - it provides an ultra-low friction mouse surface in cloth form. Of course the final decision of which type of pad you prefer will be up to you because plastic and cloth both feel very different on the mouse and for that reason most people will have their own favourite between the two. When manufacturers advertise "non-slip" backings on their mouse pad I can't resist sitting the pad on a big open table, putting my palms flat onto it and giving it a good hard push. To date, the Razer Destructor holds the record for absolute best non-slip backing because I was unable to make it budge and it never moves a millimeter when in use for months on end. It didn't take much for me to move the Ulti-Mat, as soon as I applied a moderate level of force it started to slide. This usually means it will be one of those pads I'll have to occasionally pull back on my desk because it will slowly creep forward over time.
